Disappointing AF beauty products from Sephora
Sephora is my mecca for skincare and cosmetics. I enjoy trying and experimenting with a lot of their products, especially the highly rated and hyped up ones. That doesn’t mean I love every single item from them though. There are many Sephora beauty products that have not worked out for me.
A lot of the products included in this list are very successful and popular on Sephora. Several of them are award winning and they have a massive cult following. Unfortunately, I didn’t like them for various reasons. But everyone’s skincare and makeup preferences are different. What works for you may not work for me and vice versa.
Below are 10 Disappointing AF beauty products from Sephora.

LANCOME – Tonique Confort Toner
1. This toner was a major $31 letdown. It has a strong scent. Iโm not fond of scented products in my facial routine. It left me with red, splotchy patches all over my face. As soon as I stopped using it, the red patches went away. If you have sensitive skin, then this product will not work for you. There are plenty of affordable toners on the market with less irritating ingredients.
PROS:
- Pink
- Pretty
- Popular brand
CONS:
- Expensive
- Not good for sensitive skin
- Strong fragrance
- Skin irritating ingredients
- Left me with red, splotchy patches
- Didnโt notice an improvement in my skin

THE SEPHORA COLLECTION: FACE MASKS
2. These masks werenโt horrible nor impressive. I wanted to love these so bad, but I donโt. They were ill fitting, and uncomfortably close to my lash line. The eye and mouth holes were too small as well.
They were overly saturated with product. It left my skin feeling sticky, not refreshed. I had blemishes and breakouts all over my face after using all four masks.
These Sephora Face Masks are not skincare game-changers for me. I donโt care how affordable these face masks are, or how cute their packaging is, I will never purchase these again.

NARS Radiant Creamy Concealer
3. This NARS Radiant Creamy Concealer is super hyped up on Sephora, like it has 11k reviews and 753.1k hearts. And itโs an Allure Best of Beauty Award Winner. Below Iโve listed all the reasons why this award winning concealer did not work for me.
LIKES
- Compact โ easy to travel with or keep in purse
- Attractive container\tube
- Free of sulfates, parabens, formaldehydes, formaldehyde-releasing agents, and phthalates
- Allure Best of Beauty Award Winner
DISLIKES
- Not cruelty free
- $30
- Applicator doesnโt bring out too much product, have to constantly dip into container for more product
- Not good for dry skin
- Does not blend well at all
- Not creamy
- Creases & gets patchy
- Cakes
- Limited product in tube
- I never reach for it
- Way too hyped up
- Other better quality and affordable concealers on the market
- One time purchase, never again for me

Anastasia Beverly Hills – Brow Wiz
4. (Shown in image above) The $23 eyebrow pencil from this popular beauty brand was so disappointing that I never reviewed or blogged about it. The pencil broke in half about a week after I purchased it. It broke. When I did use it I was not impressed. This was a disappointing one time purchase.
HOURGLASS – (Mini) Translucent Setting Powder
5. (Shown in image above) The container was the main issue with this $20 Hourglass setting powder. The holes where the powder escapes are too small. It took forever for the powder to come out. I didn’t really have an issue with the powder itself, not impressed really. It took forever to do my makeup because I couldn’t get the powder out of the container. I never even finished the setting powder because it was so tedious. I never blogged or reviewed this product either because it was unimpressive.

DRUNK ELEPHANT: Sukari Babyfacial
6. As soon as I bought this product, on the very first use, the pump broke. I was forced to use a stirring stick to scoop out the product. This was an $80 purchase, and it broke the first time I gave it a go. I didnโt just buy this product because itโs pink, I bought it because everyone is praising the hell out of it all over social media.
PROS:
- Love the pink bottle
- Generous amount of product inside the bottle
CONS:
- Uncomfortable stinging sensation โ not worth the pain for the meager results
- No immediate results
- Defective dispensing product
- I didnโt notice an $80 difference โ too expensive
- Didnโt live up to the hype
- A โoneโ time purchase

LANEIGE – Lip Sleeping Mask
7. Korean skincare brand, Laneige. I did not feel this was a good buy. First of all, I was hooked because of the pink packaging and even the lip product itself is pink! I just had to have it. Ugh, for $20 plus tax it wasnโt worth it.
This Laneige product has 3k reviews on Sephoraโs website and it has 120k hearts. It also won a 2018 GLAMOUR BEAUTY AWARD. I really wanted to love this product. I had huge expectations when I purchased this product and they all turned into disappointments after one single use.
Pink Lip Mask
The goopy product smells like strawberries, very sweet and yummy fragrance. It goes on thick, my lips are left bright & shimmery, and they stay that way for a while. However, after a couple of hours my lips are sticky, flaky and still chapped. Too sticky, goopy, and messy.
Itโs not practical as a โlip sleeping maskโ especially if you sleep on your stomach, because itโs doomed to end up on your pillow. It doesnโt sink in immediately as claimed, it sits on top of your lips for a couple of hours, so a lot of this $20 product will end up on your bedding.
There is a fragrance associated with this product and it could irritate your lips if you have sensitive skin.
LIKES
- Pink
- Pretty
- Portable โ Itโs small. Easy to travel with. The jar is durable.
- Comes with little scooper โ which means no dirty fingers in product.
- Smells yummy
- Feels nice at first
- Soft scent, not too overwhelming
- No parabens or phthalates
- Not tested on animals
DISLIKES
- $20 plus tax
- Too small
- Doesnโt work.
- Doesnโt hydrate.
- Lips still chapped after using as directed.
- Too gimmicky
- Leaves sticky residue
- Leaves a thick and messy coat on lips.
- Would have been better in a tube, jar is just too messy.
- Too hyped up.
- The scooper needs to be cleaned and sanitized after every use, it eventually becomes sticky & messy.
- The clear, plastic baggy for the scooper gets gunky, goopy, and dirty if you donโt wipe the scooper off before inserting.
- The entire experience is a hassle.
- If you sleep on your stomach, then the โmaskโ will end up on your pillow.
- Does not help reduce flakiness as claimed.
- No quick absorption as claimed.
- Fragrance might irritate consumers with sensitive skin.

OLAPLEX Shampoo, Conditioner and Hair Protector
8. This was a $84 set. I didnโt notice a single difference in the overall improvement of my hair. Iโve used the #3 several times in the past, but never noticed an improvement in my color damaged hair. So I bought #3, 4 & 5 โ thinking I would see a difference if I used all three of these products together โ expensive disappointment. These products just did not work on my hair. I did not notice a change in my hair at all.
Maybe Olaplex works, but I think you need to use a lot of it consistently. Which means this is a very expensive hair brand that you must be committed to for a long time to see any major results. No thanks.

Sunday Riley – GOOD GENES
9. This is the product that Sunday Riley is most known for, their all-in-one lactic acid treatment: Good Genes. There was and there still is so much hype around this product.
I used the Good Genes lactic acid treatment several times a week. Iโve had no negative reaction to it at all (thank goodness). My skin does look good in the morning. Oddly, it has an intense lemon scent. It feels nice when I use it, I donโt mind the texture of the product. It sinks in nicely. But, after all this time using it, I havenโt noticed a major improvement of my skin.
I honestly donโt feel like Iโve benefited in the long run from using this product. Itโs just not worth the money. There are so many other lactic acid products that are far much more affordable on the market, like The Ordinary’s lactic acid treat for $6.80 or The INKEY List has a lactic acid serum for $12.99.
Donโt fall for the over hyped reviews online like I did. Good Genes from Sunday Riley is way too over hyped and too expensive and you might only get mediocre results from this lactic acid treatment.

PLAY ! By SEPHORA
10. PLAY! by SEPHORA is a beauty subscription box filled with five trial-size samples that are delivered right to your door.
The entire presentation felt cheap. It did not feel like a chic Sephora beauty purchase. The box was more appropriate for preteen or teenage girls. I was unimpressed by the mediocre products. As shown in the image above you can see their Inferior and boring packaging. This PLAY was a horrible attempt to copy all the other beauty boxes on the market. Tacky. The “makeup bag” that was included was just a plastic cheap ziplock type bag.
