SKINCARE FRIDGE: Do You Really Need One?

Skincare Fridge

Skincare/beauty fridges are everywhere on social media right now, it’s the modern day Caboodles (caboodles: a must-have makeup organizer coveted by teen girls during the 80’s & 90’s), or like those clear acrylic makeup organizers that were made famous by the Kardashians. And every time I see a pretty instagram picture of a mini fridge filled with sheet masks, serums, and jade rollers, I feel like I have to have one too. I’m surprised I haven’t bought one already.

Here’s why I haven’t purchased a skincare fridge yet:

  • I don’t live in a big house, it’s a perfect size for me and my husband and my little dog. It literally takes me less than a minute to walk over to the kitchen and reach into my fridge for my skincare. If I lived in a two story house, then I’m sure I’d keep one in my bathroom or bedroom.
  • I have room in my actual fridge to keep an area for my skincare.
  • Clutter – It’s one more thing that will take up space on my vanity.
  • Not all skincare is supposed to be placed in a fridge.
  • Not a necessity.
  • Can be noisy, some leak, waste of money, and they eat up electricity.

Most people don’t really need a fridge for their skincare. It’s a glitzy and glamorous fun trend that’s currently sweeping through the beauty community.

Here’s who would benefit from a beauty fridge:

  • College students who live in dorms would benefit from keeping their skincare in a mini fridge.
  • Adults who live with roommates. If you live with roommates, but you don’t want your skincare products in the communal fridge, then a mini fridge in your room would be ideal.
  • Someone who lives in a big house. If you live in a two story home, it can be time consuming and tedious to hike all the way downstairs to haul your skincare products from the fridge.
  • Instagrammers, beauty influencers, youtubers, and bloggers – these beauty fridges are great for that perfect ‘shelfie’.
  • Great gift for preteen and teenage girls.
  • Injured/handicapped individuals. For example, if you’re on crutches, and you don’t want to hop all the way to the kitchen for your skincare, then a mini beauty fridge can be beneficial.

Just keepin’ it real, as you can see in the image above, I have this little area in our fridge where I keep my skincare products, nothing glamorous, but it gets the job done, I don’t need more space than that. I keep my vitamin c serum, eye masks, sheet masks, serums, face sprays, and skincare samples in there.

Obviously, if a company sent me one in a PR package, of course I’d graciously accept, I’m just not gonna go out of my way to get one myself (who knows, maybe I’ll cave one of these days).

I can’t stress this enough, not all skincare products are supposed to be refridgerated. Unless the package instructs you to keep their product in the fridge, the majority of skincare products can be stored at room temperature. Skincare products go through stability and packaging testing, they are meant to be kept at room temperature, that’s why they are placed on the shelves and not in the fridge section at the store. When is the last time you’ve seen a refrigerated skincare section at Sephora or Ulta or your local drugstore?

Have you purchased a mini fridge for your skincare products? Do you think they are a good idea?

These mini fridges are super cute! For me, such a fridge is not a necessity, but I bet there are people out there that use them. Stay safe!

A skincare fridge has been on my wishlist for the longest time! However, I haven’t bought one for myself for the exact same reasons you listed. Although they are aesthetically pleasing, they really are a waste of money/space/energy.

Laura, so glad you enjoyed the post. Wow, I must consume a lot of social media feeds because all I see is shelfies from mini skincare fridges. Glad that you agree that college students can benefit from this product. Sincerely appreciate the lovely comment. Hope you have a beautiful day 🙂
