Pink Beauty Products Are Currently All The Rage

(I can’t stand the term millennial pink) I’m sure you’ve seen it everywhere, am I right? I’ve noticed this popular shade splashed all over social media, advertising, home decor, restaurants, clothing, and our instagrammable walls in LA. Also, many makeup/beauty products are sold and packaged in this popular color. Like, you can sell almost anything as long as it’s in pink, is that true? Are we pink sheep? I kinda think that for me the answer is, yes, to a certain point. So, are all beauty products better because they’re pink? I’m not gullible enough to believe that; however, personally, pink products are aesthetically pleasing and they look fabulous sitting on my vanity as well. Plus, they’re so photogenic.

Here are five popular, pink beauty products that I purchased and I wanna let you know if they were a hit or miss?

~ Product descriptions are from their official company website ~

Pink makeup bag filled with beauty products.

Can we just take a second to admire my chic, pink makeup bag. It makes me smile every time I  use it. It’s super roomy, and it can hold a large amount of stuff. I like to take this one with me when I go to the gym.

Flatlay of TLC Drunk Elephant product

Pink Beauty Products: Drunk Elephant Sukari Babyfacial:

Χ  MISS  Χ

According to DrunkElephant “This innovative at-home facial contains a whopping 25% AHA and 2% BHA blend including our dream team Glycolic plus Tartaric, Lactic, Citric and Salicylic acids to gently but efficiently resurface as it exfoliates the pore lining, getting rid of built-up dead skin cells by breaking down the substance that holds them to the surface. Appropriate for all skin types, Babyfacial™ will dramatically smooth texture, minimize the look of fine lines, wrinkles and pores and boost overall clarity—revealing fresh, radiant, baby-soft skin.”

As soon as I bought this product, on the very first use, the pump broke. So now, I am forced to use a stirring stick to scoop out the product. This was an $80 purchase, and it broke the first time I gave it a go. I didn’t just buy this product because it’s pink, I bought it because everyone is praising the hell out of this all over social media. All the hype…I was intrigued…so I made an impulsive pink sheep purchase.

To begin, I applied a think layer of this product all over my clean face, it leaves an orange tint, and this stuff stings. It stings like crazy, like almost to the point where it was super uncomfortable. The product needs to be left on for about 20 minutes and then washed off. Voila! I should now have fresh, radiant, baby-soft skin…right? I didn’t notice much of a difference. Let me be more clear, I didn’t notice an $80 difference. There were no immediate results. It’s instructed that this be used weekly, and I have, but I’m still not impressed.

I know it’s a faux pas as a beauty blogger to write negatively about Drunk Elephant. Why? Because they are committed to clean ingredients in their products and they support elephant conservation. Sadly, this is not the first, nor only DE product that has disappointed me (however, that’s another blog post entirely). Now, I don’t care how many positive reviews I read or hear about this specific DE product, it was officially a ‘one’ time purchase for me.

PROS:

  • Love the pink bottle.
  • Generous amount of product inside the bottle – might last 2 to 3 months

CONS:

  • Uncomfortable stinging sensation – not worth the pain for the meager results
  • No immediate results
  • Defective dispensing product
  • I didn’t notice an $80 difference – too expensive
  • Didn’t live up to the hype.
  • A ‘one’ time purchase.

Flatlay of Miss Jessie's hair product

Miss Jessie’s Pillow Soft Curls:

♥♥ HIT ♥♥

Miss Jessie’s describes their product as “The name says it all. Miss Jessie’s PILLOW SOFT CURLS™ is the new styling lotion that borrows fabric care technology and marries it to haircare. It is perfect for achieving static-free, big, soft, curly hair that we all dream about. If you don’t want ramen noodle definition and instead want a larger, expanded, fluffy curl then PILLOW SOFT CURLS™ is for you! It’s the first “fabric softener” type styling lotion that will leave your curls clothesline fresh and fluffy soft.

I love this product! I try to avoid using heating tools on my hair as much as possible. Currently, I have platinum blonde hair, and I try not to damage it any further with curling irons. This fabulous hair styling lotion gives me a relaxed curl without damaging it in the process. As you can see from the pictures of this tube, it is a pretty good size, it comes with a generous amount of product for $23. This pink beauty should last a long time. I’ve already purchased this several times, and I will keep repurchasing it.

Let me just point out that I have naturally wavy hair to begin with, so this product enhances the curls I already have. I cannot vouch for people who have super straight hair. I think it works well with chin length hair or above the shoulders. I tried using this when I had really short hair, and it just didn’t work for me. Also, I can’t picture using this product if I had really long straight hair, it’s a lot of product to have to use. So, if you’ve got super short hair or long, straight hair…I wouldn’t try this product. But if you’re somewhere in the middle, like I am, I think you’ll enjoy it as much as I do.

How I use it: I wash my hair as normal. I towel dry my hair a little, I squeeze a generous amount of the product on to my palm, and then I distribute it evenly throughout my hair. Then, I just scrunch away. I gently, grab fistfuls of my hair and I scrunch. Scrunch. Scrunch. I do this while I’m watching tv or reading a book. The magic is evident once my hair has had a chance to air dry, I’m left with super soft ringlets. Throughout the day, I do go out of my way to curl strands of my hair with my finger, it makes them even curlier. My hair is full and soft.

PROS:

  • Gives my hair gorgeous curls without having to use damaging heat.
  • Easy to use
  • Quick
  • Convenient
  • Affordable
  • leaves my hair soft, vibrant, and full.
  • Easy to acquire ~ purchased this at my local Target.
  • I’m a loyal customer to this product.

CONS:

  • It can get a little messy and sticky
  • Not sure how it works for straight hair
  • Unsure how it works for super short hair or long, straight hair.

Evian Facial Spray pink, flatlay

Evian Facial Spray:

♥♥ HIT ♥♥

Evian claims “Its unique mineral balance and neutral pH makes evian® Facial Spray the perfect freshen-upper for all skin types. The millions of tiny micro-droplets are instantly absorbed, moisturizing the upper layers of hot thirsty skin, any time anywhere.”

I’ve been using this Evian facial spray for years. Believe me, I like those fancy-shmancy setting sprays, especially the ones that are infused with anti-aging ingredients, but they can get expensive. This one is affordable, I can spray my face all day long, and I don’t have to worry about the price. The mist sprays on super light so it doesn’t mess up my makeup. It leaves my face glowing and moisturized. It’s a must-have for travelers who spend a lot of time on planes. It’ll help you look bright and dewy if you’re in a hot, dry environment. Also, it’s ideal for sensitive skin that gets irritated easily, this product only contains water with a unique mineral balance and neutral pH ~ so it’s healthy. Oh, and the pretty pink design makes me love it even more, but I would still keep on buying this even if it wasn’t pink.

PROS:

  • Affordable
  • Nutritious for skin
  • Portable
  • Fine mist
  • Chemical free
  • Refreshing
  • Moisturizing
  • Scent free
  • Great for all ages & skin-types

CONS:

– NONE

Evian, Lancome, & Miss Jessie's beauty products in a pink flatlay

A flatlay of pink facial toner

ΧΧ MISS ΧΧ

Lancome states that “This silky-soft moisturizing toner immediately rehydrates and gently purifies skin. The instantly soothing formula made with Honey and Sweet Almond Extract gives skin a soft, fresh, clean and incredibly comfortable feeling.”

*sad face emoji* This product was a major $26 letdown. My primary toner is a Neutrogena alcohol-free blue bottle (I do purchase products that aren’t pink) that’s only $6 and it’s larger than the Lancome toner in the pictures. Ugh, this lovely pink Lancome toner has a strong scent. I’m not fond of scented products in my facial routine, because the chemicals that are used to create the scents are the same chemicals that will be absorbed by your face, and that is not good, especially if you have sensitive skin. This toner left me with red, splotchy patches all over my face, and as soon as I stopped using it, the red patches went away. If you have any type of sensitive skin at all, then this product will not work for you. Don’t worry, there are plenty of more affordable toners on the market with less irritating ingredients. This is a chic, pink beauty product that I will never purchase again.

PROS:

  • It’s pink
  • Pretty
  • Familiar brand

CONS:

  • Too expensive
  • Not good for sensitive skin
  • Strong fragrance
  • Skin irritating ingredients.
  • Didn’t notice an improvement in my skin

Drunk Elephant flatlay of their Night Serum in a pink bottle

♥♥ HIT ♥♥

Drunk Elephant describes that “This high-tech gel resurfaces dull skin, gently lifting dead skin cells away by dissolving the glue that holds them to the surface. The results are greater clarity and a smoother, more even looking complexion. Formulated with our dream team AHA/BHA blend including Glycolic, Lactic, Tartaric, Citric and Salicylic acids and blended with raspberry extract, T.L.C. Framboos™ Go from a drab complexion to an absolutely luminous one, practically overnight!”

I like that this product is not painful to use. The initial first few times you use this exfoliator it does sting just a little, but it is not uncomfortable like the Sukari baby facial. I use this three times a week, along with my other products in my skincare regiment. After I apply this to my face, I wait several minutes, and then I apply a facial oil, the next morning…my skin is glowing. I’ve already repurchased this several times, and that says a lot, because it is not a cheap product: $90. It gently exfoliates and leaves my skin soft and radiant. It does not irritate my sensitive skin, and it’s one of my favorite anti aging beauty products.

PROS:

  • Gently exfoliates
  • Immediate results
  • Not painful
  • Skin easily absorbs product
  • No toxic ingredients
  • Does not irritate skin
  • No strong fragrance
  • Easy to use twist & turn top.
  • Product lasts a long time

CONS:

  • Expensive

Two Drunk Elephant pink beauty products in a flatlay

So, the big questions have been answered: Are all pink beauty products worth the purchase? And are they only fabulous because they’re pink? Two of the five beauty products that I reviewed in this post were complete failures, so beware, not all ‘millennial’ pink products are created equal.
