Hawaiian Airlines First Class Review from LA to Maui

Hawaiian Airlines

~ No ~

I just had to get that out of the way. No, I don’t think First Class to Maui from Los Angeles on Hawaiian Airlines is worth the price.

My husband and I went on vacation to Maui for eight days. We were celebrating an anniversary and we just wanted to make it a little extra by going first class. It was not a horrible experience. However, I am a picky person and I feel our experience could have been better.

I hope you’ll find this post helpful in case you are debating whether or not to purchase first class seats on Hawaiian Airlines for your next vacation.

Hawaiian Airlines First Class Is Not Worth The Money

There is no Hawaiian First Class Lounge in LAX. Seriously. For the price we paid for our first class tickets, we expected to be able to enjoy and relax in a lounge prior to our flight. The seating area by our gate was crowded, and it was hard to find a few empty seats. Having a first class lounge to retreat to would have been convenient.

The Kahului Airport in Maui had a First class lounge, it was so pathetic. It was a big room filled with comfier chairs than the normal seating area. There was some mediocre coffee available with powder packet cream. Fountain sodas only. No cold bottled water. There were tiny little bags of chips. That’s it. No wine. No bathroom. It was technically NOT a first class lounge. So disappointing. And no amenity kits were provided for either flight.

The first class cabin on the plane didn’t feel luxurious. Yes, sure, it was nice to have all the room we had for a 5 hour flight. But the seats and our area in general just looked dirty. That’s why I wore sweats and a long sleeved shirt for the trip because I didn’t want my bare skin touching dirty seats. I saw some women in dresses and sandals on the plane, I would just feel gross having my bare legs in contact with the dirty seats. The headphones, iPad, the pull out table top, it all was just so grimy and icky.

Dislikes:

  • No First Class lounge at LAX.
  • Horrible first class lounge in Kahului Airport on Maui. Mediocre refreshments available.
  • First class cabin didn’t feel luxuriousness.
  • Icky and grimy seats/interior.
  • The accessories were dirty (iPad, headphones, etc.)
  • The service could have been better all around.
  • Rude Hawaiian Airlines employee at the LAX gate/counter.
  • Not worth the price for a 5 hour/domestic flight.
  • Too expensive.
  • Horrible service on our flight home from Maui to LAX.
  • NO amenity kits were provided for either flights.

Hawaii – Maui Vacation

The Hawaiian Airlines service could have been a lot better. When we arrived at LAX we were near our gate and couldn’t find any employees to assist us. There were other employees present at other airlines desks but not ours. Once we did find a Hawaiian Airlines employee that individual was not polite, helpful, or informative.

On our flight from LAX to Maui the service was practically perfect. They catered to us flawlessly. We never had to ask for anything. They were constantly going up and down the aisle checking on us.

On our flight home from Maui to LAX, the entire flight crew and their service was horrible. We had to keep pressing the ‘service’ button for drinks, they lectured my husband for bothering them too much. We constantly had to ask for water, the cups were small, so throughout the flight we asked for several glasses of water and they were bothered by that.

I think we’ll refrain from splurging on first class again on Hawaiian airlines and use the money towards our vacation. We do earn miles with our credit cards, and if we ever do Hawaiian Airlines first class it will be because we used our miles instead of paying full price.

I find that first class is more worth it for international flights on bigger planes than for domestic flights! Sorry to hear you didn’t have a great experience this time around! -Audrey | Brunch at Audrey’s
