Color Science – An Expensive Disappointment.

Color Science, a collaboration gone wrong.

Color Science

When Color Science approached me to collaborate with them, I agreed pretty quickly, and now I wish I hadn’t. I’ve seen some of my favorite ‘influencers’ promote their products, and I guess I was struck with a bad case of FOMO. Color Science sent me two boxes of their TOTAL EYE: 3-In-1 Renewal Therapy. Folks, these little tubes aren’t cheap ($69 for one) and I got two. If I liked the product, all I had to do was post a picture on my IG and give them a shout out. I thought this was going to be the easiest collaboration, ugh. Plus, I haven’t done a collaboration in a long time and I thought this would be a perfect opportunity to get back into the sponsored content arena.

First of all, the product itself was too orange. Second, it was too thick & it didn’t sink in to my skin. Third, when it dried it cracked and it looked horrible under my eye region. Fourth, it didn’t blend with my skin tone or my foundation. It just gave me this orange raccoon look around my eyes, and it clumps up too badly.

“…visibly improve the appearance of dark circles, puffiness, fine lines, and wrinkles” – Color Science

The dark circles go away, now they’re replaced with orange circles, lol! It doesn’t improve the appearance of fine lines, because the product settle into your lines, giving a horrible dry cakey look. They also claim that this product should be used twice a day to see improvement, really? I don’t apply a full face of makeup twice a day. You can’t use this at night to bed, because it’ll stain your pillow case. So how are you supposed to use it twice day? And you can’t reapply it over the makeup you’re already wearing because if you apply more, it’ll just look too caked on. Respectfully, I think their claims are too fantastical.

I just don’t recommend this product at all. There are too many other skincare/makeup products on the market that are more affordable and that work better.

Btw, when you order this expensive product, there is no option to chose different shades. Seriously, for $69 your only option is this orange shade. This just doesn’t feel like a $69 product, it feels cheap.

I like that this product has an SPF and that it is geared to totally trying to protect your eye region. I would have appreciated this more if it came in a clear product, that way it could blend in to my eye region without messing up the rest of makeup. It would be a nice SPF primer if it was clear, the color is just too orange.

Messy Color Science product

I did not like the applicator. You have to push down on the pump to bring the product out to the surface, and a couple of times it squirted and made a mess. Plus, you need to wipe down the applicator tip Every Single Time, or else you’re left with a dried out, cakey, messy, unsanitary applicator. No thank you.

What did I learn from this failed collab & what should you do if you’re ever in the same situation?:

  • Do your homework. I should have done more research to make sure that this would have been a good fit for me.
  • Don’t say ‘YES’ too quickly. Believe me, collabs aren’t all that. You should really love the products and companies you are promoting.
  • Don’t be afraid  to say ‘NO’. Honestly, I know it’s flattering and exciting to be invited to collaborate, but you shouldn’t feel you have to say – yes- all the time. Because you’ll burn yourself out over products that you don’t even really like or need.
  • Don’t post a picture. Once you get your product, and you realize you don’t like it for the whatever reasons (bad quality, doesn’t work as promised, etc.) just don’t post or promote it.
  • Politely write the company. Thank them for the opportunity. Let them know why you’re declining to promote the product that was sent to you. I’m sure they’ll appreciate the feedback.
  • Learn from this experience. This whole blogging journey is a learning experience, but try not to repeat your mistakes.

~ Honestly, it’s embarrassing to back out of a collaboration, because you’re not living up to your end of the bargain. But you can’t go around promoting things you don’t believe in, or else, you run the risk of not enjoying blogging or vlogging. Keep your integrity, and don’t be so quick to jump at every collaboration invite that comes your way. Oh, and I think this should go without saying, but, always be professional.

I absolutely love how honest you are in this post! I’m someone who is always trying to find the next best thing for my dark circles. You literally saved me a pretty penny by writing this review so thank you! (Also, if it helps at all I’ve been loving the Body Shop and VII Skin Code for my dark circles)!

This is truly enlightening dear. Indeed, it’s important that you do your homework and be critical to brands before you commit to any colabs. Thanks for the informative post.

This doesn’t look nice at all!! How can they expect a good collaboration when their product isn’t good at all?

    Wishing you all the best,

I’m so glad you understand where I’m coming from, lovely, because that’s exactly how I felt as well. The thing that shocked me the most was the expensive price?!? I just couldn’t go through with the collaboration, especially with such an ‘odd’ product. Thanks so much for the feedback. Hope this was a helpful. Have a beautiful day!

That’s a shame you didn’t get on with it. It looks like it would be too orange for me as well. x
