Skincare Tips For A Glowing Complexion
No beauty tech device or expensive skincare product can transform the appearance of your skin single-handedly. It’s all the little things that you do that adds up. Wanna completely transform the appearance of your skin?
Follow the 9 tips listed below for a healthy glow and a more transformed complexion:
- (1) REST
- Get your beauty sleep. Skin rests and repairs itself during sleep. Your body boosts blood flow to your skin when you’re sleeping, which means more collagen, less wrinkles and less sagging. When you are fully rested you wake up with brighter eyes, glowing skin, fuller hair and an overall healthier appearance.
- (2) EATHEALTHY | STAY HYDRATED
- You are what you eat. Do you want your skin to look like an oily, greasy hamburger or a juicy, fresh peach? Limit fast food intake. Don’t keep processed, unhealthy food in your pantry. Sugar ages your skin, limit your candy intake.
- Drink plenty of water. Be aware of how much caffeine you consume, because coffee and diet sodas are dehydrating. And when your skin is dry you look old. Sis, ya don’t want to look like the crypt keeper from TALES FROM THE CRYPT.

- (3) DON’T SMOKE
- Smoking causes wrinkles, especially around the mouth and eyes. This nasty habit ages you faster. There are deadly chemicals in cigarettes, this leads to collagen breakdown and will result in more sagging skin. Plus, smoking kills.
- (4) WEAR SUNSCREEN | PROTECT YOURSELF FROM THE SUN
- Religiously wear sunscreen on your face and décolletage.
- Use a wide brim hat and sunglasses to block the sun from your face when you go outside. Use a scarf around your décolletage to avoid sun damage. Wear gloves to protect your hands from aging while driving or running errands.
- (5) LIMIT ALCOHOL CONSUMPTION
- Alcohol accelerates skin aging and releases more stress hormones in your body. Heavy drinking can add years to your face. It dehydrates your skin. Drinking causes wrinkles, puffiness, dryness, red cheeks and discoloration.

- (6) HAVE A CONSISTENT SKINCARE ROUTINE | USE THE RIGHT INGREDIENTS
- Consistency is key. If you only use your serums and creams and beauty tech devices once or twice a month don’t complain when you don’t see an improvement. As with anything, you need to be consistent with your beauty tech devices and facial creams to enjoy their benefits. Adopt a morning and evening beauty routine that you can realistically commit to in your life. Be aware that skincare routines that work for others may not necessarily work for you.
- Make sure you are using the right ingredients for your skin type. Consult with a dermatologist. Seek out knowledge from professionals. Do your research. If your concern is anti-aging, you won’t benefit from products geared towards teenagers. Are you pregnant? Know which ingredients can harm your unborn baby. Do you suffer from severe allergic? Always looks at the ingredients list when purchasing new creams and serums.
- (7) DON’T SLEEP WITH YOUR MAKEUP ON
- It is unhealthy for your skin when you sleep with your makeup on. Makeup traps dirt and toxins inside your skin. Sleeping with makeup on can lead to premature aging, dry skin, eye infections, and pimples.
SLEEP-RELATED WRINKLES
- (8) SLEEP ON YOUR BACK
- Have you heard of sleep-related wrinkles? Applying repeated pressure on your face like, sleeping on your face for 8 hours every night can lead to collagen breakdown and contribute to sleep-related wrinkles. Sleeping on your back is the ideal position, because it allows fluid to drain properly, which prevents puffy eyes.
- (9) EXERCISE
- Exercise can help your skin look younger. It helps limit stress, and we all know that stress ages you. It also increases the production of collagen cells and stimulates the production of growth hormones. Plus, you will benefit from the release of endorphins in your brain when you exercise. And it protects you from accelerated aging and gives an overall youthful appearance.
The 9 tips I’ve listed above are all the mistakes I made in my teens and twenties. I was not disciplined when it came to sunscreen and protecting myself from the sun. I ate way too much processed and fast food, and as a result I suffered from a lot of pimples. I’m embarrassed to admit how many times in the past I’ve slept with my makeup on. I drank a lot in my twenties, and I didn’t have a consistent skincare routine. I’m not perfect now, but I have been following these 9 tips routinely for several years and I’m happy and more confident with the results. It’s never too late to dramatically improve the appearance of your complexion.
