Facial spray – Should you splurge on luxury or save on affordable ones?
A good facial spray is a must-have daily beauty essential
Facial sprays are one of my must-have daily essentials. I especially use them in dry, hot weather and when my skin needs to look refreshed. I mean come on, don’t we all wanna have glowing, dewy skin?
However, not all facial sprays or mists are created equal. Some can cost as little as $10 and others sadly, can cost hundreds of dollars. But I know what you’re thinking, if you purchase the more expensive options that means your skin will look a lot better, right? Unfortunately that’s not true. More money doesn’t always buy better results.
It’s summer and the one time of the year when I go through a lot of facial mists. I spray my face all day long during heat waves. Sometimes I want hydration or a dose of antioxidants or a setting spray after applying my makeup. Also they are a must-have when traveling, facial sprays add instant moisture to your face during a long flight and protects it from drying out. Either way, I always keep a variety of facial sprays in abundance in my beauty arsenal.
Btw, I just finished the Mario Badescu Rosewater Facial spray, you can read about my experience with this facial spray here!
The three facial sprays shown in the picture above are the ones that I’m currently using:
- EVIAN Facial Spray
- dermalogica Antioxidant Hydramist
- LA Mer The Mist
LA MER – The Mist
⊗ Don’t Splurge
I’ve been using ‘The Mist’ religiously for a couple of months now, and I can honestly say that I will never purchase this $80 product ever again. I truly didn’t notice a difference in my face after using it, compared to the other affordable sprays I’ve been using. Don’t get me wrong, it is a refreshing facial super boost, but not worthy of the hefty price.
LA MER claims that this mist is formulated with marine botanical extracts to improve the radiance of my skin. Did I really notice the difference in my skin after spraying these magical ingredients onto my face? Temporarily my face had a slight glow, but again, not enough for me to want to keep purchasing this product. Supposedly the live internal magnet (shown in the picture above) helps continually charge the ingredients for optimal results *eye roll emoji* I don’t feel the live internal magnet did anything to benefit my experience, maybe LA MER just needs to justify the $80 price.
I will say this, the product itself worked just fine. I love the sleek design of the bottle, the nozzle worked without hassle, and spray was a soft mist.
I don’t recommend this product, especially if you’re on a budget, don’t splurge on this, save your money.
dermalogica – Antioxidant Hydramist
⊕ Splurge
I love this facial spray to death. It is half the price of LA MER’S facial mist, and I will repurchase this product again. I kinda wish it wasn’t $42, but it does last a long time, and the mist is super fine (which means product doesn’t go to waste).
dermalogica claims that their mist “protects your skin by an active antioxidant shield of White Tea, Licorice and Vitamin E to fight damaging free radicals, while a patented polypeptide helps prevent the signs of aging caused by Advanced Glycation End-products a damaging byproduct of sugar/protein reactions in the skin). A highly-active Vitamin C complex, combined with collagen-stimulating peptides, encourages firmness and elasticity to help reduce the appearance of fine lines. Hyaluronic Acid acts as a hydration magnet to quench dehydrated skin while Pea Extract creates instant firming action to lift and tighten. Rose and Clove extracts comfort and refresh skin. Contains no artificial fragrance or color.”
I like that this facial mist contains no artificial fragrance or color. But I when I use this facial spray I do detect a light, sweet smell, which I’m assuming is due to all the natural ingredients listed above. I like that this product contains hyaluronic acid, vitamin e, and vitamin c. Supposedly this stuff is supposed to firm, lift, and tighten my skin. I’m not sure if I notice all the results that this product claims, but I know for a fact that it works better than LA MER’S $80 mist.
I highly recommend this facial spray, $42 isn’t cheap, but I think it’s worth the splurge.
EVIAN – FACIAL SPRAY
⊕ SAVE
Folks, I have been using this facial spray for years. In fact this was my very first facial spray I ever purchased, and it started my obsession with facial sprays. I like that it absorbs quickly into my skin, adds moisture, and it is refreshing. It does not break down my makeup. There are no fancy ingredients or fantastical claims made by Evian, it’s simple and pure water. It is wonderful for people that have very sensitive skin. It is not greasy and there is no scent. The bottle is super compact, portable, and great for traveling/purse essentials.
Tip: I like to keep one in the fridge. First thing in the morning I spray my face with cool, fine, pure misty water!
You can get two medium size bottles at Sephora or Ultra for about $15! Hello, that is super affordable. This product is ideal for instant hydration.
I highly recommend this product. I’ve been using it for years, and I will keep on purchasing it.
Luxury facial sprays are not always worth the splurge!
I feel facial sprays are an essential part of a daily beauty routine, but beware, not all are created equal. Many are too pricey and others don’t ‘do’ anything but hydrate. Pay attention to the prices and ingredients, look for what will suit you best. Hope you enjoyed this and found it useful.
