ALLURE – Four Award Winning Beauty Products That Didn’t Work For Me

ALLURE Beauty Award Winners
Allure is an American women’s magazine that concentrates on beauty. A hallmark of the magazine is its annual Best of Beauty awards, these are elite beauty products recognized by their editorial staff. Allure’s prominent and popular Best of Beauty Award Winner ribbon assists readers to choose the best makeup, skin-care, and hair-care products on the market.
And I must admit I’ve made many beauty purchases based on that quintessential Allure red seal of approval. Unfortunately, not all these award winning expensive beauty products have been satisfying. Below are the four beauty award winners I regret buying. I know this is going to be frowned upon by some because these are popular products in the beauty industry, sadly, they just didn’t work out for me.

1. LANEIGE Lip Sleeping Mask
Likes & Dislikes
LIKES
- PINK
- It looks really pretty
- Portable โ Itโs small. Great for travel. The jar is durable
- Comes with little scooper โ no dirty fingers in product
- Yummy aroma
- Feels niceโฆat first
- Soft scent, not too overwhelming
- No parabens or phthalates
- Not tested on animals
- Allure Best of Beauty Award Winner
DISLIKES
- $20 plus tax
- Contains red & yellow dyes – can cause acne
- Contains fragrance
- Doesnโt work
- Too glossy
- Doesnโt hydrate
- Lips still chapped after using as directed
- Too gimmicky
- Leaves sticky residue
- Leaves a thick and messy coat on lips
- Would have been better in a tube, jar is just too messy
- Too hyped up
- The scooper needs to be cleaned and sanitized after every use, it eventually becomes sticky & messy
- The clear, plastic baggy for the scooper gets gunky, goopy, and dirty if you donโt wipe the scooper off before inserting
- The entire experience was a hassle
- If you sleep on your stomach, then the โmaskโ will end up on your pillow
- Does not help reduce flakiness as claimed
- No quick absorption as claimed
- Fragrance might irritate consumers with sensitive skin
Lip Sleeping Mask
I never finished this product, I threw it away after several uses. This Laneige product has 7k reviews on Sephoraโs website and it has 240k hearts, seriously? It won a 2018 GLAMOUR BEAUTY AWARD. I really wanted to love this product. I had huge expectations with this purchase and they all turned into disappointments after one single use (enjoy Laneige unboxing here).
The goopy product smells like strawberries, very sweet and yummy fragrance. It goes on thick, my lips are left bright & shimmery, and they stay that way for a while. However, after a couple of hours my lips are sticky, flaky and still chapped. Itโs not very practical as a โlip sleeping maskโ especially if you sleep on your stomach, because itโs doomed to end up on your pillow. It doesnโt sink in immediately as claimed, it sits on top of your lips for a couple of hours, so a lot of this $20 product will end up on your bedding. You need to wipe the scooper after every use or else it sits in the plastic pouch, which becomes unsanitary after several uses. Overall, my entire experience with this lip mask was too sticky, too goopy, and too messy.
All positive/beneficial claims made by Laneige and Allure are not true in my humble opinion.
I thought I was crazy for not liking this Laneige product, but I have read other negative reviews online (not too many, but they are out there) that share the same opinions as my own. Also, beware, if you have sensitive skin there is a fragrance associated with this product and it could irritate your lips.

2. DRUNK ELEPHANT’S T.L.C. Sukari Babyfacial
As soon as I bought this product, on the very first use, the pump broke. So I was forced to use a stirring stick to scoop out the product. This was an $80 purchase, and it broke the first time I gave it a go. I didnโt just buy this product because itโs pink, I bought it because everyone is praising the hell out of this all over social media. All the hype, I was intrigued, so I made an impulsive pink beauty purchase (enjoy more pink beauty purchases here).
This stuff stings. It stings like crazy, like almost to the point where it was super uncomfortable. The product needs to be left on for about 20 minutes and then washed off. Voila! I should now have baby-soft skin, right? Meh, I didnโt notice much of a difference. Let me be more clear, I didnโt notice an $80 difference. There were no immediate results. It was instructed to use this Allure beauty winner weekly, I did, and Iโm still not impressed.
An Expensive Disappointment
I know itโs a faux pas as a beauty blogger to write negatively about Drunk Elephant. Because they are committed to clean ingredients in their products and they support elephant conservation. Sadly, this is not the first, nor only DE product that was a disappoint to me (but thatโs another blog post entirely). I donโt care how many positive reviews I read or hear about this specific DE product, it was officially a โoneโ time purchase for me.
Likes & Dislikes
LIKES
- Love the pink bottle.
- Generous amount of product inside the bottle โ might last 2 to 3 months
- Allure Best of Beauty Award Winner
DISLIKES
- Uncomfortable stinging sensation โ not worth the pain for the meager results
- No immediate results
- Defective dispensing product
- I didnโt notice an $80 difference โ too expensive
- Didnโt live up to the hype.
- A โoneโ time purchase.

3. TATCHA Camellia Gold Spun Lip Balm
This was my first official purchase from Tatcha. All their products are so girly and pretty. So, I ordered my Camellia Gold Spun Lip Balm from Tatcha.com and it was a satisfactory online experience. With my $30 purchase I got three samples and one travel size cleansing oil as well (Enjoy TATCHA unboxing here)
Tatcha does make an effort to personally connect with their customers. The receipt was personally addressed to me, and they ended the letter with a hand written comment for me as well. Nice personal touch.
The lip balm came in a presentable box.
Likes & Dislikes
LIKES
- Gorgeous lip balm
- Product itself is not sticky or gummy
- Soft and soothing.
- Smells like lemons
- It does work pretty good, again, just not $30 good.
- Allure Best of Beauty Award Winner
DISLIKES
- Jar is not glass, more like an acrylic, plastic material. The lid is a plastic material as well.
- Made to look luxurious, but handling it you can feel this isnโt lux at all, at least not $30 luxurious.
- Gold flakes are gimmicky. They serve no purpose. If you do manage to get a few flakes of gold on your lips, itโs not that impressive. Please donโt buy this if youโre on a mission to look like a Golden Goddess, this will not make you look like one despite all the gold flakes in the product.
- Not worth $30 dollars.
- Glorified expensive chapstick.

#4 NARS Radiant Creamy Concealer
This NARS Radiant Creamy Concealer is super hyped up on Sephora, like it has 11k reviews and 753.1k hearts. And it’s an Allure Best of Beauty Award Winner, so this product must be perfect, right? Ugh, below I’ve listed all the reasons why this award winning concealer did not work for me.
