The Woman In The Window
A. J. FINN’S #1 NEW YORK TIMES BESTSELLER
First off, let me just say the Netflix movie based on this book is sh*t compared to the actual book. Is the book worth a read? Most definitely. Is the movie worth a watch? No, skip it…unless you’re a masochist…then enjoy.
SYNOPSIS: THE WOMAN IN THE WINDOW
Anna Fox lives alone, a recluse, she’s unable to venture outside her home. Fox is also separated from her husband and daughter. She spends her days drinking wine, watching old movies, living in the past, and spying on her neighbors.
Then the Russells move into the house across the street. They appear to be the perfect family. That is until Anna witnesses a terrifying event that involves her new neighbors, something she can’t unsee. This is when her already fragile world begins to crumble, but this is also when the fun begins.
Is Anna just drinking too much? Is she imagining things? Should she be committed to an institution? Nothing in Anna’s life is what it seems.
“Astounding. Thrilling. Amazing.” — Gillian Flynn
“Unputdownable.” — Stephen King
- I sincerely apologize for my absence from the Chic-N-Pink blog. 😢💔😢💔😢Our dog, Coco, he died 🐶. We had him for 13 wonderful years, and now he’s gone. We had no other pets, he was our one and only fur baby for over a decade…so…I just had no desire to blog or focus on social media. But, I’m officially back. Hopefully, curating and producing content again will help distract and comfort me. So let’s get on with it, shall we.
By the way, hope you all are doing well and enjoying your summer thus far.
THE WOMAN IN THE WINDOW
This was a fun read. It was entertaining…that’s all. It is not the greatest book I have ever read and not the worst. I believe The Girl On The Train by Paula Hawkins was much more memorable, learn more about this book here
What I liked about TWITW is Anna Fox. The protagonist is a broken woman, she’s agoraphobic, and an alcoholic. She mixes alcohol with prescription medications, which is never a good combination, and thus it makes her an unreliable witness. She’s a child psychologist, a highly educated woman, but she just can’t get her sh*t together. Ultimately it is interesting and heartbreaking when the reader discovers how Anna has become such a fragile and crippled woman.
This book reminded me of Alfred Hitchcock’s 1954 “Rear Window”. In this classic movie, L. B. Jeffries (played by James Stewart) is trapped in his wheelchair, and to pass the time he shamelessly spies on his neighbors. I love this movie, and you should give it a watch when you feel like a watching a classic masterpiece. Most definitely the author of the TWITW was inspired by Rear Window and The Girl On The Train, at least it felt that way when I read the book.
A Quick, Fun Read. Not A Literary Masterpiece.
ANNA FOX – A fragile, broken agoraphobic woman. She abuses alcohol with prescription medications daily. Anna believes that she witnessed a murder across the street at her neighbors house. Nobody believes her, not the authorities or her friends.
DAVID WINTERS – Anna’s tenant with a complicated and disturbing past. Winters rents the spare bedroom in the basement. He helps Anna around the house with maintenance and chores.
ALISTAIR RUSSELL – Controlling husband and father.
JANE RUSSELL – Wife and mother and Anna’s new friend.
ETHAN RUSSELL – Troubled teenage son of Jane and Alistair. Also, Anna’s new friend.
This was a fun, quick read. I think I finished the book in less than two days. It’s the type of book that you read on vacation, on the beach, or on a rainy day with a cup of coffee in your hand. I don’t want to go into further detail because I don’t want to spoil the book for you, but it was worth a read.
