If you enjoyed my fall perfume collection post then I’m sure you already know my signature scent for 2021 is Parfums de Marly Delina (shown in image below). I bought my bottle of Delina towards the end of 2020, but didn’t open it until 2021, because I wanted to start the new year off right.

Bonus: Below I’ve also listed 5 ways for you to find your signature scent for 2021.

Parfums de Marly DELINA

Currently, this unique fragrance is getting a lot of praise by social media influencers. Surprisingly I never heard of this perfume on social media. The way I discovered it was when I made a beauty purchase from Bloomingdale’s and then received a free sample of Delina. I absolutely adored it. But I wasn’t sure if I was going to purchase this super bougie perfume, however my husband insisted on buying it for me the very next day.

This is a delicate, floral perfume. Honestly, I’m not really into floral scents, but for some reason this one works really well with my body chemistry. It is a long lasting perfume. When I spray it on in the morning, I can still detect it on me at night before I take a shower.

Also, this elegant bottle is giving me major Marie Antoinette vibes. Remember the 2006 Marie Antoinette film. It is a candy colored film filled with dazzling dresses, an awesome soundtrack, pink decor, delicious pastries, champagne, and fun. Just sayin…Marie Antoinette would definitely have had Delina in her perfume collection, because it smells like royalty, honey.

Too Overpriced & Overhyped?

Let’s just state the obvious, if you don’t like feminine, floral scents…you will not like Delina. Don’t purchase this fragrance until you test it on your own skin. It is not a cheap purchase, so don’t buy it because your favorite social media influencer is praising it or because you like the bottle.

I read a negative review online from a unsatisfied customer. This customer claimed Delina smelled like bug spray and that it was way too overpriced & overhyped, so she returned it. She admitted that she watched her favorite YouTuber praise this scent, she liked the bottle, then purchased it online, used it once or twice and didn’t want to get stuck with the $320 bill…so she returned it. What a waste.

Keep in mind that perfumes are a very personal choice. What smells good on me and what I prefer may not be your cup of tea. Ya feel me. There are a lot of popular and successful fragrances on the market that I don’t like. Delina smells like heaven on me, but it might just smell like expensive bug spray on you.

A lot of the negative reviews are from customers that have seen Delina on Youtube, read many positive reviews, liked the bottle, so they purchased it without trying it out IRL first.

A Chic, Pink Masterpiece

Delina is a floral eau de perfume in an extravagant pink bottle. A girly, feminine, delicate, and sensual scent. With an unforgettable sillage and longevity.

I don’t regret this purchase at all, it is my official 2021 signature scent, and I just absolutely adore it.

Notes:

– Top: bergamot, nutmeg, rhubarb, lychee.

– Middle: Turkish rose, vetiver, incense, cedarwood.

– Base: vanilla, cashmeran, musk.

Bonus: 5 Ways To Find Your Signature Scent.

• COLLECT SAMPLES – You can buy sample bottles of perfumes from different stores, but I don’t, I participate in reward programs. That’s why I shop from Sephora so much, because with every online purchase I get 2 free samples (it used to be 3). Every time I make a purchase I get to pick 2 free samples, and you guessed it, I always pick the fragrance samples. With these little bottles you get any where between 10 to 20 spritzes of product. That is several occasions to wear the fragrance and decide whether you want to splurge for the full bottle. Nordstroms also gives free samples with online purchases. I encourage you to shop online more and benefit from the free samples. Also, whether it be Ulta, Sephora, or your local store, try to join a reward program, because that’s where you’re more likely to get free samples as well.

• Visit Your Local Store – (This is obviously a lot harder because of Covid) That’s right, get off the couch, and walk in to your local Sephora, Ulta, Macy’s, or Nordstrom’s and spritz away. Talk to the employees, ask them for advice or recommendations. Go often and try a different scent every time you visit. This is the cheapest method, because it’s free. It’s also a great way to discover new fragrances that just arrived in the stores.

• SOCIAL MEDIA –  Seriously, beauty bloggers/vloggers review everything. The majority of them really do give their honest, unbiased opinions and they are super informative. Consider which fragrance you’d like to purchase and watch some Youtube videos, read some blogs, or research that fragrance online and read some ratings by satisfied/unsatisfied customers. Especially on Sephora’s website, some of their customers don’t hold back and they are brutally honest. But don’t make an expensive perfume purchase without testing it on your own skin first.

Also, don’t forget about Instagram, TikTok and Pinterest. These are all fantastic ways to discover new fragrances.

Fragrances

• CELEBRITY SCENT – Pick a celebrity: JLo, Britney, Madonna, Kim K, Paris Hilton, etc. Who do you wanna smell like? One of the first and only celebrity fragrances I’ve ever used was White Diamonds by Elizabeth Taylor (a gift from my dad), and I believe she was one of the first celebrities to have a huge success in the fragrance world. Btw, I’ve never purchased a celebrity fragrance, too gimmicky IMO. But, Britney and Paris and JLo have successfully made millions in this industry, so they must be doing something right. Give this a shot, you might find your signature scent!

• ASK AROUND – Have a friend or co-worker that always smells nice? Ask them what scent they use. Ask family members if they’ve tried any new fragrances. Have you been in a public setting and someone next to you smelled good? Well, in a non-creepy way, compliment them on their scent and ask them what brand of fragrance they are wearing, you never know, you might make a new friend.
