2023 August Empties – Fragrance, K-Beauty, Mascara, Drugstore Favorites
2023 August Empties
🪒🧼🧴#BEAUTYPRODUCTEMPTIES – Beauty consumers have a cornucopia of products to choose from when shopping. That’s why it’s a personal triumph when one finally finishes a purchase, more so if it’s later repurchased. It’s so satisfying to use up that last glob of face cream, the final perfume spritz, or when you ‘hit pan’ with your favorite eyeshadow or blush palette.
🚮 Below are my 2023 AUGUST EMPTIES: Finished beauty products that are getting tossed into the recycling bin, but not before I share them with you all first.
2023 AUGUST EMPTIES: Sunscreen, Lip Balm, Mascara, Tretinoin
- 1) ⭐ | $22 Time Revolution Night Repair Ampoule (Price varies) I really enjoyed this serum. I bought it on Soko Glam during one of their sales. It was not hard to finish this product. It is an affordable probiotic serum that feels luxurious. The packaging feels heavy, it’s a good quality glass bottle. I would buy this again. I used this in the evenings after applying my tretinoin. The ampoule feels silky smooth and hydrating.
CNP Tip: Purchase lesser known Asian skincare products on Stylevana, Amazon, OliveYoung or during a SokoGlam sale. They’re more affordable on those sites. They might be more expensive at American department stores.
- 2) 😍😍😍 | $30 Lash Idôle Lash-Lifting Mascara – I like everything about this mascara, just not the price. The wand/applicator has a curve that helps lift and separate, and the tiny bristles reach lashes in those hard to reach spots. It’s a buildable formula that doesn’t clump, flake or smudge. I will purchase this again during the next Sephora sale.
- 3) 😍😍😍 $6.24 for a 3 pack Carmex Classic Lip Balm – This is my favorite lip balm of all time! But can we please talk about the ugly packaging, other than that it’s perfect. It’s small, cheap, and effective. Carmex is a long-lasting protective barrier that is perfect during the winter months. It has a neutral taste with no strong odor. And a little goes a long way, a single pot lasts forever. I always have several of these on hand at all times. This lip balm is great if you live in a dry climate because it heals and repairs chapped, dry lips.
Finished Beauty Products
- 4) ⭐ | $30 The Ordinary Multi-Peptide + Copper Peptides 1% Serum – This is a great and effective serum and I’d buy it again. It’s gone through several name changes. I think it was once called The “Buffet”, also the name on the bottle in my picture is different from the current name. Besides all that, this is a wonderful product. My skin looks amazing when I use it. I was using this instead of a vitamin c serum in the mornings. This multi-peptide serum is an affordable day time serum that layers well with my other skincare products and under my makeup.
- 5) 😍😍😍 | $28.00 OLAY Regenerist Micro-Sculpting Cream – This is my go-to affordable, drugstore night cream that I’ve purchased often throughout the years. It’s a good size jar and the price isn’t too bad compared to other expensive creams. But price varies depending where you purchase it. Olay’s micro-sculpting cream is a perfect night moisturizer, I have no complaints, never had any negative skin reactions. I always purchase the fragrance-free version. It layers well with my other serums and I wake up with smoother, brighter skin. It’s a moisturizing, solid, effective, and affordable product. You can use a lot without the fear that you will break the bank. I rub a good amount all over my décolletage, face, and hands.
Drugstore Favorites, Setting Spray, Prescription Skincare
- 6) ⭐⭐ | $28.00 Regenerist Night Recovery Cream Moisturizer – This is an awesome, affordable fragrance-free product. I like to use it all over my face and décolletage in the fall and winter. I can use a lot and I don’t worry about the price. I will continue to purchase it. It contains great ingredients like green tea, niacinamide, peptides, Vitamin B3, and Vitamin B5.
- 7) 😍 | $29.99 La Roche-Posay Ultra-Light Sunscreen Fluid – I like this sunscreen a lot. It sinks into my skin fast, and I love the way it looks under my makeup, it does not pill. This sunscreen has a runny, milky texture, and it easily spreads all over my face. It has no tint, does not leave a strong white film (it’s subtle). This La Roche-Posay sunscreen is lightweight and there is no strong scent. It is a bit pricey, unfortunately, but I wouldn’t hesitate to purchase this sunscreen again.
- 8) 👍 | $36 Urban Decay All Nighter Waterproof Makeup Setting Spray – Ugh, I don’t know. I buy two or three bottle of these a year. I’ll admit I’m too lazy to go out and experiment with other setting sprays. I did try the Charlotte Tilbury one, meh. Honestly, they both work about the same. If you’re looking for a setting spray, then you can’t go wrong with this one.
Fragrance, Affordable night cream, Peptide Serum
- 9) 😍😍😍 | $155 Yves Saint Laurent Libre Eau De Parfum – I finished this perfume so fast. It was my go-to scent for the past 6 months. It’s warm, rich, intimate, sophisticated and sexy. I will repurchase this for sure, but I don’t know if I might get the intense version next time. It’s a good year round scent, something I can wear everyday. Not too expensive, more so if you can get it on sale or with a discount code.
- 10) ⭐⭐⭐ | $25.00+ CUROLOGY (Price varies) – Curology is an anti-aging, tretinoin prescription skincare subscription service. I like that it is designed for my specific skincare needs and goals. Curology allows me to get my tretinoin without having to physically go in and see my doctor. The packaging is simple. But the prescribed cream is potent and effective. My prescription is for 4% Niacinamide, Azelaic Acid 5%, and my Tretinoin was increased to 0.05% by my assigned dermatologist. Not only is this an amazing serum, but I also get the numerous benefits of niacinamide and azelaic acid included with this product. Curology is a good option for people who don’t have access to a dermatologist, but still want prescription strength skincare. It should not replace in office cancer screenings or hospital treatments for serious skin conditions. This beauty brand is definitely something to consider if you are looking for easy access to prescription strength skincare for anti-aging, textured skin, blemishes, or acne.
WHY I USE PRESCRIPTION TRETINOIN IN THE EVENINGS:
- Helps treat a variety of skin concerns
- Anti-aging benefits
- Prevent, reduce, and treat wrinkles
- Improve appearance of age spots
- Stimulates collagen production
- Promotes rapid exfoliation
- Stronger than store bought retinol
- Reduces acne inflammation
- Improves skin texture
2023 August Empties: Body & Hair Serum, K Beauty, Micellar Water
- 11) ⭐ | $10.00 SUNPLAY Clear Water SPF 50+ – Amazon purchase here! The affordable price for this sunscreen makes my wallet happy. Sunplay’s sleek, compact shape is giving Chanel La crème main vibes. The packaging colors are so pretty too. This non greasy SPF liquid melts into my skin, has a light blue tint and does not give a white cast. Sunplay Clear Water works well with all my other skincare products and looks great under my makeup.
- 12) ⭐⭐⭐ | $225 SISLEY PARIS Hair Rituel Revitalizing Fortifying Serum for Scalp – I only ever purchase this item during major sales or with my reward points. Also, the price has increased ten dollars within the past year. A couple years back I noticed the hair around my temples were thinning a bit, that was my motivation for purchasing this serum. It has helped my hair a lot throughout the years. I would never buy such an expensive hair product if it didn’t work. I’ve noticed less shedding and thinning of my hair. Sisley’s serum is highly concentrated in plant-based extracts, proteins, vitamins and minerals.
- 13) 😍😍😍 | $45 Nécessaire The Body Serum – I did not want to like this product…but I do. It’s so extra but so necessary. I enjoy using this serum. As soon as I get out of the shower I use this all over my décolletage and my shoulders and my arms and hands. Then I quickly apply a moisturizer on top. It’s not sticky. It spreads nicely. It doesn’t clump up. I usually have to buy about 3 or 4 bottles a year. I try to get them during the sales. I do wish this serum was more affordable, but I like the ingredients and how it feels when applied. I’ve already purchased this item multiple times.
Summer Skincare Empties
- 14) ⭐ | $16.53 THE PLANT BASE TIME STOP COLLAGEN AMPOULE – Have to be honest, not sure If I will purchase this again, there was just no “wow” factor for me. There is nothing wrong with this item at all, it just didn’t do anything for me. The ampoule didn’t irritate my skin and has a nice texture. This is formulated with 76.53% mushroom extract. The Plant Base company claims it stimulates collagen production and reduces the appearance of wrinkles. It’s a popular serum, and free of irritants like parabens, artificial fragrance, and mineral oil. This serum has a pH of 6.56.
- 15) ⭐⭐ | $22 (Price varies) MISSHA TIME REVOLUTION THE FIRST TREATMENT ESSENCE RX – This is Missha’s best-selling hydrating essence. It’s a popular, well reviewed essence by customers. Many consumers claim MISSHA’S essence is comparable to SK-II. The bottle is heavy, elegant, and good quality. It’s silky smooth and refreshing and has a 5.5 pH level. This fermented essence leaves my skin feeling more radiant, hydrated, and brighter.
Essence, Face & Hair Masks, Ampoule
- 16) 😍 | $20 (Price varies) KLAIRS Freshly Juiced Vitamin E Mask – I’ve bought this skincare product twice already. KLAIRS vitamin e mask is supposed to be used as an overnight mask, however, I use it in the day after my moisturizer and before my sunblock. I LOVE the way this feels under my makeup. It has a pudding-like, bouncy texture that melts into my skin immediately. This Klairs mask has vitamin e and niacinamide. It leaves my skin glowing and brighter.
- 17) 😍😍😍 | $24 ACWELL Licorice pH Balancing Essence Mist – I’d purchase this essence mist again. This essence mist has an ultra-fine milky texture that is refreshing and packed with nutrients. It is not sticky or greasy. I apply this essence before and after my makeup and throughout the day. Acwell’s essence can be used as a setting spray or whenever you feel like refreshing your skin.
- 18) 👎 | $25 mini size GISOU Honey Infused Hydrating Hair Mask – I really wanted to adore this hair mask, but I don’t. It did not impress me. I enjoy using Gisou products, you can read more reviews about them here Gisou’s hair oil and leave-in conditioner impressed me, so I had high expectations with this hair mask, unfortunately those high expectations weren’t met. I won’t buy this product again.
Beauty Drugstore Empties
- 19) ⭐ | $13 BIODERMA Sensibio H20 Micellar Water Makeup Remover – This iconic, fragrance-free micellar water gently and effectively removes my makeup. Bioderma’s micellar water is step one in my 3 step cleansing process to remove my daily makeup. I will continue to purchase this product over and over.
- 20) ⭐⭐⭐ | $17 La Roche Posay Hydrating Gentle Face Wash – This has been my go-to cleanser lately. I like La Roche Posay in general and it’s easy to try their products and recommend them. It’s oil free, soap free and non-comedogenic. Gentle is the key word here, so it’s not going to take off all your heavy duty makeup. That’s why this cleanser is the last step in my 3 step cleansing process. I remove my overall makeup with micellar water, then I use a cleansing balm to dissolve my eye makeup, lastly – I cleanse my entire face with this face wash.
